Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), the national flag carrier of Azerbaijan, is set to be the first Muslim country to resume flights to Israel following a hiatus prompted by regional tensions. The decision comes after a five-month suspension due to the outbreak of the war with Hamas, with flights slated to recommence from March 19 onwards.

The announcement signals a significant step towards normalizing aviation ties between the two nations, reflecting a thaw in relations amid broader geopolitical shifts. Initially, AZAL will operate three weekly flights to Israel, with plans to ramp up frequencies to nine flights per week starting in April.

Furthermore, a slew of additional airlines is anticipated to join the ranks in April, with Delta Air Lines slated to re-enter the Israeli market at the onset of May.
